Walked thru the park yesterday next to my house and stumbled upon the Girl team skating the museum. Went and said hello and hung out with them for a couple of hours watching them destroy the place. Nice way to spend the afternoon..

Sorry for the lack of updates, been in southeast Asia for the past month or so. No stuntwood action round those parts. Just cool mud flaps everywhere..

Stumbled across this spot whilst walking around town here at the beach.

Easily the best ledge spot i've ever skated. Perfect ground, it's partly covered and it's not a bust.

I was straight up killing it of course..

but for real, five-o's for days. ledges like butter

Stayed in Edinburgh Scotland and Aberdeen for almost two weeks.

They have a proper shop called focus. Strictly skateboarding. They come correct with a nice shop and good gear.

They moved the shop to what used to be the oldest fish monger store in edinburgh.
In keeping with the roots of the old shop they kept the nautical theme going. Looks nice..

Digging thru the archives I found some old scanned pics from the late 90's out in L.A.

My buddy Berdet would go out there to skate and just come back to Florida with random pictures of him and some pros.
Here he's @ lockwood with Mike York, Aaron Meza and the Frostman. I think he said they were filming a line York did in the chocolate tour video that day.

Berdet would just randomly show up at people's cribs. Like when I asked him about his photo with him and Keenan Milton he said that he just heard about where he lived and showed up to say "what's up". Random. Keenan was stoked about it obviously... I mean, check that expression on his mug.

We lost one of the great ones when Keenan left the party. damn. RIP

So after going thru some old VHS archives at my house yesterday, I decided to do a post about the antithesis of what I put below in regards to the ATM click video. This one here has to be one of the WORST skateboard video soundtracks to ever come of age. And that is the Rhythm video "Genesis".

It came out twelve years ago back in 1997. An early Ty Evans production that closely incorporated his passion for electronic music. By and large the music soundtrack is absolutely dreadful. The only saving grace is maybe a few stereolab songs found in between the riders parts during a few montages. The skating is pretty rad, but I always used to end up watching it with the sound off and that proved to be much better.

Why in the world would you use a Chemical brothers song for such a ground breaking part such as the one below? Bummer.
Regardless, dig this old gem.. Solid Swiss Ripper Chany Jeanguenin. Underrated? Oui. Song selection? Huge buzz kill.

So I used to watch this video ATM click, come together, almost everyday for years when I was growing up. I was stoked on the skating of course, but the tunes in this vid really turned me onto a lot of new types of music at a young age. (the same goes for the sheep video, "life of leisure" but this guy can tell you ALL about that classic vid)

Here's a few gems from that video cassette from waaaaay back in 1995.

Tom Penny guest section. Short but sweet.

It was just a few super 8 clips at the Santa Rosa park and a really sick switch line down some random street. All set to the tune of Lou Reed's Satellite of Love from the infamous Transformer album.

Brian Gaberman, the now accomplished photographer had a good part and a fucking great song. I searched high and low for this Art Blakey album for years and finally found it. Good stuff and it fits his part well.

I couldn't locate a video clip from his part online. Bumsies....

John Miner, from sleepy santa rosa california, who is now a filmer for Emerica, had a smooth part in this vid too.

The Cat Stevens song used in his part was from the album Mona Bone Jakon.

I have always been a fan of Cat Stevens ever since my girlfriend in 9th grade got me to watch Harold and Maude

Mario Rubalcaba used to be pro for ATM click and had a part in come together also.

He skated to a Tortoise song called Ry Cooder. Amazing song by an amazing group of musicians. I saw them play live a few years later in 98 and was blown away.

(interesting sidenote: Mr. Rubalcaba has played in several bands over the years and at last year's SXSW here in Austin I got to see him play with the band Earthless and it was epic.

Went and saw the new workshop vid MIND FIELD Friday night at the local shop find and grind

Had the classic AWS formula. Lots of black and white 16mm footage of birds, bugs and old people. Also a lot of good skating in it and the tunes were spot on as usual.

Anthony Van Engelen had my vote for best part, hands down. But regardless everyone had good parts.

They say imitation is the biggest form of flattery, so on that note taking a cue from mon ami Seb @ a visual sound , I decided to list some tunes that i'm stoked on from one of my favorite skate videos growing up.

Now, I got a hold of this skate video through a mail order catalog way back in 1994. I didn't know who any of the skaters were but I was really hyped on it after watching for the first time.

I used to think Geoff Rowley's name was pronounced Gee-off and I remember telling the older skaters about him and how awesome he was. They would just sit there looking at me like I was an absolute retard. Hah...

But I digress, the music to me was pretty rad at the time. Some of it was crazy Japanese bubblegum pop music that Jeremy Klein put in, but other parts featured Frank Black a la Teenager of the Year era. Tom Penny's short but sic part still gets me stoked when I watch it.

Oh yeah, and this crazy ass movie with Jackie Chan becoming part of the street fighter video game was in it too.

Teens wielding skateboards foil robbery

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Police said a robbery attempt in Daytona Beach, Fla., was foiled by a group of teenagers who bludgeoned the suspect with their skateboards.

Richard Parris, 46, allegedly tried to grab money out of the register at a Kangaroo convenience store while the teenagers were shopping, WKMG-TV, Orlando, Fla., reported Tuesday.

One of the teens, Clinton Pomares, said he and his friends rushed to stop the thief and struck him several times on the head with their skateboards.

"I raised my skateboard over my head and just came down on his head as hard as I possibly could," Pomares told WKMG-TV.

The police said the teenagers surrounded the suspect and kept him from escaping until officers arrived to take him into custody, the report said.

Parris was taken to Halifax Medical Center for treatment.

Well, I'm back from New Zeeeland. Twas an epic journey and a good time for sure. Now I'm back in the United States of Awesome.. Back home to cheap beer, breakfast tacos, cheap(er) petro, sinister politicians, winter weather and a fairly normal ozone layer. Feels good..

Time to get cracking with a new escape plan. Next trip shall either be a cross country skate road trip to Alaska or somewhere in Africa? Who knows..Suggestions welcome.
